Halloween 2024 One-Shots

Halloween Oneshots 2024.png

All players will need to be 18 or older to participate.

I am running SPoOoOky games this September and October! Every Thursday and/or Friday at 6PM. Saturday and/or Sunday at 4PM.

I will also work with groups to adjust the days and times so we can fit everyone that wants to play! Just message me and I will get a new event made if it works for my schedule!

You can access the events via the Discord, or view the calendar through the below link after registering with the server. It will provide you a broader overview of when the events are occurring, and who is attending them. You must sign up using discord, though.

You can sign up for more than one event if you are fine playing any of them, but the first game to 3+ RSVPs will be locked in.

Game Information

Here are some one-shots I plan to run for people for the Halloween Season. Some may allow two sessions, but I'm planning to complete these in 4-6 hours of playtime.

Will run it multiple times, if there is enough interest.

    • Dread

      • Jenga Tower Horror in a forgotten town!

      • Player Info: You are descended from the survivors of strange disappearances that once afflicted your grandparent’s town in 1943. You’ve been told stories of the town your family once came from, the people that once lived there, and of the weird cabin that existed long before the town itself. Before each survivor passed, they all said they needed to go back, and now you, their grandchildren, have decided to fulfill that wish…
      • Location: In Person
      • Game: Dread, A storytelling game where every action requires a pull from the Jenga tower to decide your fate.

    • They Feed on Fear
      • You are the monster, and use a single D12 to determine how successful you are.

      • Player Info:  You are a Fear-Eater; an eldritch interdimensional being that feeds on a form of human energy called Essence. You and the other entities aim to be the first to accumulate sufficient Essence to achieve dominance over this bustling city and establish a foothold into this world…
      • Location: In Person or Online
      • Game: They Feed on Fear, A D12 system where your Risk efforts result in more reward.

    • The Darkest House

      • This uses a special "House System" which is rolling multiple D6s to meet Target numbers (1-10). The goal is to explore the house and discover more about your character, the house's secrets, and make it out alive.
      • Player Info: This house has haunted your dreams for as long as you remember. Perhaps… even longer it sometimes feels like. You and your friends are all connected to it somehow, and now stand in front of it to, daring to face your nightmares. Explore the Darkest House and uncover the secrets, while surviving the dangers.
      • Location: Online or In Person Possible
      • Game: The House System, A 2d6 system where modifier dice are used meet difficulty checks ranging from 1-10,

    • 5E House of the Midnight Violet

      • This is 5E with a few adjustments to smooth out the 1-shot and build that spooky experience
      • Player Info: You have been asked to recover a rare specimen from a nearby island. You know other teams have attempted to claim the prize, but so far none have returned, and the reward has become too tempting to pass up. The alchemist and innkeeper Savier is waiting for you to report to him to acquire more details.
      • Location: Online or In Person
      • Game: D&D 5E - 5th level characters provided, or bring your own.
    • 5E The Last Voyage of the Pleasant Evening

      • This is 5E with a few adjustments to smooth out the 1-shot and build that spooky experience
      • Player Info: Twenty years ago, the Pleasant Evening, a ship carrying five passengers, thirty crew members, and a hold full of cargo, went missing out on the high seas. The telescope of William Carlin, the ship’s captain, washed ashore and
it since changed hands many times. However, rumor has it that every owner of the telescope has vanished in the night and that, subsequently, the telescope washes ashore again, waiting for another victim.
      • Location: Online or In Person
      • Game: D&D 5E - 5th level characters provided, or bring your own.

The Aethelwulf Gaming Community takes the consent and the consideration of its players, facilitators, activities, and content seriously. We expect GMs to explain and understand the safety tools they will be using, and we expect all players and organizers to understand and abide by the boundaries of all members at the activities. The most common of these tools are Lines & Veils, the X-Card, and CATS (Concept Aim, Tone, and Subject matter).

Horror and Similar Content

Horror, Grimdark, Monster-roleplay, and similar categories of gaming content place players in scenes and activities that are designed to push boundaries, create unease, and encourage emotions to become a part of the gameplay. Fear, uncertainty, risk, character death, and sensitive topics are expected to be present at the table, but we will still take sensible precautions to encourage everyone has a fun and memorable experience.

Please leverage the provided safety tools and information for the event and discuss them with the GM.  The below forms are freely available from PDFs and Toolkits you can also use in your own games:

Cost and Event Location

Cost

Free!

Why? I enjoy running games and am looking to connect with the community for future activities. Any potential costs would be shared by the whole group if we wanted to rent a space or room at a game shop, cafe, or other location.

Location

Each group will work with me (the GM) to schedule a time and place to hold the event. The plan is to leverage local game shops, cafe rooms, rentable spaces, and online services to help us establish a SPoOoOky atmosphere.

Some of the content and activities will require a space with minimal outside distractions and a low risk of game delay. We want to avoid the Dread jenga tower getting knocked over, and we want to create that "Ghost Stories Around the Campfire" feeling as we take on the roles of monsters in, They Feed on Fear. However, The Darkest House is very suited for online play and is even encouraged by the creator when he built it for video calls, screen sharing, and private messages.

I will work together with the players to find the best solution to have a fun and memorable experience.
