Darkenhaven

The city of Darkenhaven is the capitol of the Republic of Zyranthea, which is located on the continent of West Verdestia in the world of
Zyathé. The city is built atop the Blackshoal Cliffs that rise some hundreds of feet above Darksilver Bay, which is an enormous estuary on the southwestern coastline of the Republic. The Blackshoal Cliffs offer the metropolis significant protection from seaward attacks as they are not only very tall, but also quite steep.

Darkenhaven is one of the more important cities in the world and much commerce comes to the metropole because of this. But unlike
other cities, Darkenhaven has a most interesting characteristic; for though it is a hub of sea-trade, her ports are not found in a bay or
other inlet nearby. Indeed, they are located in a massive sea cave that lies directly beneath the city proper. This is the Gloomport.

The Gloomport

Gloomport1.webp

The Gloomport, which is also called the Dunharbor, is very much a city unto itself with a population approaching some 60,000 to 70,000 souls. The citizens of the Gloomport live in a variety of neighborhoods that are constructed on the shorelines that surround a very large body of water called Glooming Bay. The edges of the bay are replete with many piers, warehouses, dry-docks, and other such structures as would be found in any harbor elsewhere.

The bay itself can hold more than 100 ships at any one time. Much like any other harbor district in any other major city, there is considerable “roughness” to the Gloomport, and many who abide there are very willing to delve into nefarious and illicit deeds.
Smuggling, narchemy trade, illegal magicks, cargo theft, Hominid trafficking, and even murder-for-hire are not uncommon in the
Gloomport — supported by gangs and crime syndicates that hide out in the shadowed streets and many smaller caves that line the
bayside. Here also are a plethora of lowbrow taverns, inns, brothels, and flophouses that cater to the significant number of sailors who
come here when the trade winds blow.

Entry into the Gloomport is provided by passing through a huge opening — called the Maw — which tunnels through the cliffs
below the city and into the Gloomport cavern. Outside, the Maw is flanked by two great waterfalls that drop from the cliffs above
and provide a most stunning image to those arriving by sea. The Maw passage is so large that two warships may travel side-by-side
through the opening with much room to spare.

Genzacon Keep

GenzaconCitadel1.webpGenzaconCitadel2.webp

The keep known as Genzacon Citadel is a most important defensive fortification that was constructed in the Gloomport many annums
in the past. The citadel’s mission is to guard the Farthendeep Passage which is located in the Gravenstown district of the Gloomport.

The Farthendeep Passage is a tremendously long, cavernous “highway” that runs far into the depths of the Zyanduun. Because of the
size, length, and general location of the Farthendeep, much trade comes to the city via the passage from deeping settlements below. The Zyanduun, which is also called the Underdelve, is the collective name for the extensive network of cavernous underways that lie
beneath the surface of the planet. Therein may be found Dwarf and Gnomish folk, the Dark Elvish people, Fardeep Orokonoids, Vyles,
Ratfolk, the Zvidians, which are also called the Faemuddles, and other deeping races.

But trade is not the only thing that may come forth from the Zyanduun by way of the Farthendeep Passage. Indeed, many fearful monsters, fel creatures, and even powerful armies from depths of the Underdelve can — and have — used this passage to assault the city by way of the Gloomport. As such, Genzacon Citadel was constructed to protect against just such events.

The Lord and leader of Genzacon Citadel is a rather famed individual named Pater “Hoss” Wayzocost. Pater has been at his post for
a fair number of annums now and is widely respected for his wisdom, leadership, and capabilities. Once an adventurer, Wayzocost
is a most talented Fusilier and, due to his background, has much respect for the adventuring profession. Thus he often hires “adventurers of quality” to aid with projects, problems, and other such circumstances as the citadel requires.
